The Termas (bath-house) is a Brazilian instituition a mens club, visiting a Termas when coming to Rio for a mongering holiday is a must.  Rio has hundreds of Termas dotted all over the city but the main concentration is in the Centro business district of downtown Rio De Janerio.  Here the majority of punters are brazilian business men. You then use your locker key as identity for your bill.  When buying drinks the barman will ask for your key, when taking a garota to a cabine, the girl will take your locker key.  You then pay up on exit when the receptionist gives you your bill. 

So you can enter a Termas have a few drinks usually around 7R for a beer and flirt with the ladies.  You are under no obligation to go with any of the garotas, Termas are usually well run and dont need to fear being scammed or ripped off.  So if you dont like what you see you can just pay your entrance fee and leave and try another Termas.  But still always check your bill.

Im ready to leave and he is writing down the bill like he did not already know and the charge was 80R.  I had kept tabs on everything thoughout the day and was around 10R over, he explained the extra was to rent the little plastic table for my drinks.  I pay up and walk 3 blocks and 5 minutes back to my hotel on Siqueria Campos.  I head up to the rooftop pool and enjoy another hours sunshine here with Christ the Redeemer overlooking.

Leme Whore beach

I did not return to this part of the beach during my stay in Copacabana, too expensive, but did want to experience a day on whore beach, the GDP’s around there are few and nothing you cant see elsewhere around Copa.  No doubt its a lot more busy during peak season.  Other areas where working girls hang around the beach during the daytime are up the Leme end too, but as it was world cup 2010 the Copacabana beach up near Leme opposite Balcony had built a big beach complex to watch the football games.   I did watch one or two games in here, lots of security, I watched the England V USA game though in Shennaigans in Ipanema, good atmosphere and lots of USA and English football fans dressed in the colors.  When Brazil played things got really busy.

Next to the football complex I did ask a beach guy here how much to rent a chair and he quoted me 3R an hour, these areas are tourists traps.  If you just sit somewhere central a chair will cost 3R or 4R a day, drinks around the same too, so can have a very cheap day on the Copacabana beach, but you learn this after a day or two.

Whore Beach Ipanema

Around the corner from Copacabana is Ipanema suppose to be a more upmarket area and less seedy than Copacabana.  Its a nice place to go walking during the daytime along Ipanema and Copacabana beach.  One day I even caught a bus to Leblon and walked all the way along Ipanema and the Copacabana to Leme and stopping off and having a drink in Balcony. 

The Rio beaches are divided into sections or postos and a lifeguard is responsible for each posto.  Different Postos attract a different crowd as well as mongers and whores.  Ipanema has a gay area

Further along Ipanema is Garota beach, where the body beautiful are suppose to hang out.  Some of better looking Rio GDP’s are also suppose to sunbathe here in the daytime too.

Garota beach is opposite the Hotel Caesar Parque Ipanema, it would be hard to work out which girls are working and which are normal.  I just preferred Copacabana to Ipanema, more laid back.  At night some GDP’s are suppose to hang out around Cesar Park.

Shoe shit scam

One day i was wearing my trainers walking along Ipanema, a silly thing to do on a hot day, i got hit by the shoe shit scam, but at least i knew about it beforehand.  A guy with a shoe shine kit points down to your shoes and there is a dollop of slime on your trainers, you never saw it coming, some small favela kid probably put it there while you were busy looking at all the ass on the beach.  I just told him where to go and wiped it off with some paper.
Best way to avoid this is to wear sandals.

Mongering ground Zero

Whore beach Copacabana used to be ground zero for whore mongering in Copacabana before the closure of Club Help which you can clearly see the remains of as you leave Whore beach. Club Help and Terraço Atlântico were knocked down to make way for a museum.  All part of the clean up of Copacabanas seedy crime ridden image before hosting the 2014 world cup games and the 2016 Olympics.  Mongering may be on the decline in Rio.

I must say though this is a neighbourhood area and not the ideal place for the biggest disco in Rio ‘Club Help’ soley for the use of prostitutes and gringo sex tourists.  Would be better up the Leme end IMHO.

But Copacabana beach is a great place to relax during the daytime, plently of eye candy on view even in low season June.  And if you want some daytime action there is some mongering to be had on the beach.  Dont fear crime I never  experienced anything of the sort.  Plenty of police and security around and on the beach, you do notice some favela kids around and some drug addict types but nothing you not seen before.  Personally I saw more of this on the Ipanema end rather than Copacabana.
